Great news! Stan made it back to the USA for a well-deserved furlough.  Also, after numerous attempts to obtain a Visa for another three years-it was finally granted to him just before he departed! Hallelujah!! This will be a great time for renewal. He will be staying with the Taylor at Red Hill Ranch in his own little mountain cabin-no running water, but plenty of electricity! something one who has lived in Africa for three and a half years will not take for granted!

TERRORIST BOMB BLAST IN NAIROBI

PRAISE GOD..

Just a note to let you know how the visa thing is going. I spent all yesterday downtown with Joshephat running around. We had to get a letter from the people who did the visa the last time saying they had no objection to switching to a different organization and to get the copy of the old work permit. Without going into all the gory details, I met Joshephat downtown and we walked to an office which seemed to be all the way across Nairobi. Every time I walk somewhere without pain I have to thank God that the problems I used to have with my legs are gone. Anyway, after some lengthy discussions, and giving them 2,000 Ksh "lunch money", they reluctantly agreed to give us the required papers. They were trying their hardest to get more money from me, saying that I was supposed to be paying them 5,000 Ksh each year and so on. But I flat out told them that wasn't happening and they eventually saw that they weren't getting any more money. They said they couldn't give the letter until the next day (which meant another trip into town) but at least we would get what was required.

On the walk back to the place where we catch the matatu we saw smoke and what looked like a big fire at the place where we had left a short time before. When we stopped for lunch it was all over the TV that there had been an explosion on Moi Avenue, just a block from where I had spent an hour and a half waiting for Joshephat. There were many people injured and there was blood everywhere. I haven't heard yet if anyone died or if it was the Al Shabaab terrorists that caused it. Guess that is about it for now. Stan

letters from Nairobi

Hi all, hope you are enjoying April in Colorado. I am enjoying it here. I realize that sometimes I 'dump' on you and you may get the impression that life here is hard. But the reality is that most of the time I am able to rejoice in God and His provision for me. And he has certainly provided. By the way Cliff, thanks again for the money you sent.

The classes are continuing and I believe the ones here are growing greatly in God's grace and understanding the important things of His Word. Sunday was an interesting day. Before I left home it had been raining and I thought I was going to get wet. But just before I left the rain stopped. Then it rained again while I was on the matatu on the way to Kayole but when I arrived it had stopped again.

The matatu for some reason dropped us off some distance from the school so I had a chance to walk through a section of Kayole I had never been to before and it was interesting. When I got to the school the rain started again, this time very heavy for almost an hour. The school has a tin roof and it was almost impossible to hear over the rain hitting the roof. I was beginning to wonder when it would stop but just before class time it subsided and we were able to proceed with a good class. Of course those who came almost had to swim to get here because there is very little drainage and what there is is usually clogged.

Bottom line is I never even got rained on the whole time and was able to get back home in good order as well. Joshephat said there was an incident in Kayole on Saturday where the driver of the matatu that I take (number 17 if you remember Cliff) hit a policeman just down the road from where I get off and killed him. I guess the driver just got out and left everybody and ran away. Now we know why everyone gets out of the way then the matatus come by.

Joshephat has been telling me of a piece of land which apparently has been given to the ministry here. It is at the other end of Kayole close to where Joshephat lives. They are trying to determine if it is genuine or not and also trying to raise money to build a classroom there. I am not really getting involved in it as I am letting the men do this pretty much on their own. It will be nice to have another classroom though as the one we are using is cramped and many times I have to shout over the crusades and churches using their public address systems.

"IT'S SPRING AND KENYA IS IN THE AIR"

We are in the process of making African plans: fundraiser, getting in great shape, scheduling trainings, eliminating everything but the most important 50 pounds in our suitcases, long, long, long, layovers in airports, sleeping for 8 hour stretches in 17.2" wide airline seats, being harassed by international airport guards, and all else that goes with international travel.

The head of the US State Dept. has issued a Travel Advisory for Kenya,  but those of us who serve under a different head, listen only to that voice. We'll keep you updated via facebook and the blog.

PRAYER REQUESTS:
1. safe travels,
2. health
3. that we find favor in the sight of those we
   meet
4. that hearts would be open to the gospel
   message.

It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else's foundation. Romans 15:20

...and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Ephesians 6:1

And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! Romans 10:15

It has  been awhile since the last entry so I thought I would catch up in photos.  Crossroads Africa has a vision! That vision is to have a ministry center in Kenya. The vision may be closer to a reality than we think! During  Christmas Stan visited his Kenyan friend's father in the Western province near Lake Victoria. This is a beautiful area rich in agriculture. Everyone was so interested in the work of Crossraods
